Kevin Millar's walk. Dave Roberts' steal. Curt Schilling's sock. Johnny Damon's slam. Foulke flipping the ball to Mientkiewicz. Big Papi's walk-off home runs. All moments no Red Sox fan will ever forget. When Boston won the World Series for the first time in 86 years, I was elated, but I was also surprised that the feeling was more relief than joy. It was as if an enormous weight had been lifted.
Though the Sox came up short in 2005––they were swept in the Division Series by the eventual champs, the Chicago White Sox––it did not take away the magic of the 2004 Sox.
The 2006 Red Sox are younger, deeper, and more focused on pitching and defense. They traded away the disappointing Edgar "30 Errors" Renteria and let fan favorites Bill Mueller and Johnny Damon find employment elsewhere, but these moves allowed the Sox front office to shore up the infield by acquiring perennial Gold Glove contenders J.T. Snow, Mike Lowell, and Alex Gonzalez. The pitching staff should be much stronger with Josh Beckett, MVP of the 2003 World Series, in the number three spot. And who needs Johnny Damon when you've got Coco Crisp, a fleet-footed star covering center? Plus, Curt Schilling and Keith Foulke both appear ready to regain their 2004 form after struggling with injuries throughout '05, and David Ortiz is locked up through 2010 thanks to a new $52 million contract extension.
Keep up on all the action with these great feeds. (Unfortunately, super BoSox
fansite Sons of Sam Horn does not have an RSS feed.)

Red: It's The Steal. End of story. Shut down the internet, folks. It's never going to get any better than that.Denton: Hold on a sec. The steal was one of the most dramatic moments, yes. Clay Buchholz’s up-and-down season continued last night as he struggled with his command for the second outing in-a-row. With Bartolo Colon looming on the horizon for the Boston Red Sox, it’s clear that it could be Buchholz who loses his spot in the rotation when the Sox bring up Colon. The only pitch that was [...]
